I am an award winning mixed-methods researcher who studies the behaviors and practices of leaders and groups in computer-mediated work settings. I take a multi-faceted approach to research problems, combining computational methods and statistical inference with traditional qualitative approaches to triangulate user insights that drive product and organizational goals. I have a PhD in Communication from the University of Washington, where my research has contributed to the fields of human-computer interaction (HCI) and computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW). I have published and presented qualitative and quantitative studies on the management and governance of volunteer content moderation teams and online communities. I am deeply passionate about understanding the range of human experiences in technology use, especially as it relates to organizational communication and emergent work practices. I have studied newcomer influxes of the r/NoSleep community on Reddit, guild mergers in World of Warcraft, governance tools and bot adoption on Discord, and governance practices and policy making of by user communities on Reddit, Fandom, and the Fediverse. Originally from Atlanta, GA, I moved to Seattle, WA in 2012 to complete my bachelor's degree in Social Science and Communication at the University of Washington. Outside of research, I keep myself busy with producing electronic music, making digital art, learning new recipes and cooking techniques, powerlifting and weight training, photography of the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and table top RPGs with friends. I live with my wife, Hillary, our two cats, and our dog right in the heart of Seattle.
